This exfoliant contains magnesium sulfate, sea salt, and sugar cane, all ingredients that dissolve. Grains of sea salt and sugar cane are coated with magnesium sulfate. It is magnesium sulfate that exfoliates the skin and provides its benefits first. When dissolved, it gives way to the beneficial actions of sea salt and sugar cane by continuing mechanical exfoliation. It can be rinsed as needed.
